Keith Smith advises creative agencies on growth matters. He hosts The Fuel Podcast and The
Creative Intervention, and co-hosts the MPN Meta Marketing Show. The Fuel Podcast, launched in
2021 with 2ish episodes per month, features interviews with leaders of companies from all areas of
business on how they generate sales. His conversations on what tactics they use for their particular
industry – and how listeners can learn new tricks for their industry – are all delivered with a jaunty
perspective for your listening enjoyment!
What inspired your podcast? How has it evolved over the years?
A love for audio content. I consider it one of the most effective messaging mediums, so why not
marketing too? Based purely on my own selfish research, I’ve found that knowledge is embedded
easier with just audio; the brain is an incredible thing and the way that it fills in the gaps for audio
entertainment is incredible. The same way it does when we read books. We don’t need to see stuff
or talking heads to understand it.

I also have The Creative Intervention, where I interview the legends of advertising. If you’ve got a
creative problem and no one else can solve it, here you will find the wisdom of the world’s greatest
creative directors. The creative brains behind some of the world’s most famous adverts – Guinness,
British Airways, Nike and Coca-Cola – discuss remedies – or interventions – for some of the most
common advertising and marketing roadblocks.
There’s also the MPN Meta Marketing Show; the idea was to discuss some of the hottest topics on
other shows from our network. It’s interesting from my perspective to be able to relate a lot of the
content on other podcasts to my own experience and shows that I’ve done.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started your first podcast?
Play with the format – have fun. Don’t take it so seriously. I think I was very overwhelmed at first and
scared of sounding bad or over compensating. That cost me a ton of shows in terms of the
production quality I like. The very best thing is to record, repeat and enjoy!
What are your long-term podcast goals?
I believe that podcasts are just one way we preserve the incredible amount of information in the
world. I’d like to see MPN become the ultimate resource for marketing-related information, delivered
by experts in the business from all over the world. I’m also secretly experimenting with audio drama,
as I have a ton of short fiction stories that can now live on in the podcast format.
What is your podcast signoff?
Where sales and marketing never sounded so good. Tata everyone, be good to the world, and each
other.
