Episode Highlights
Matthew Shares His Story-
Matthews shares that he was always that kid that was trying to sell you something that you didn’t want. He mentions that he’s always had that entrepreneurial spirit, from washing cars to selling candy at school at high prices. All throughout his school years, he was naturally interested in the internet and building websites. He mentioned that at the age of 11 years old he did not have the full vision to build Youtube. Then he moved to jobs where he did supermarket and warehouse works. He ended up in the corporate world where he mentions that he had some great successes- where he was able to utilize all of his skills he acquired growing up. He shares that he was lucky to step into the corporate world with his level of web knowledge as that had been a continuous advantage for him.
How Can I Increase My Website Traffic and Increase my Sales(Identify The Problem)-

The first thing you need to is to find out if I have a problem- what you will need to focus on is web speed- how fast your website loads.
If your website is slow, it then leads to lower conversion rates, lower average order values, and lower revenue per visitor. However if your website is fast, higher conversion values and higher values for revenue generated per visitor.
Matthew shares that for about three years Google has made site speed a ranking factor and will improve on that in May with what is called “core web vitals update”- in other words,

The Secret To Success: Focus

Dylan Ogline is a high school dropout from a small country town in Pennsylvania. He started his first business when he was 14 selling cell phones. In 2016 he scrapped 10+ business projects and started focusing on one single thing, digital marketing. Tired from struggling getting no progress and working from his freezing basement, not to mention nearly a Million dollars in debt – it was an uphill climb. Turns out, focus was the key. 4 short years later he has built Ogline Digital into a 7-figure agency generating over a million in sales three years running. Dylan is now a leading expert in direct response advertising and business growth. He has now turned his focus to helping other people start and grow their own hyper profitable digital agency.

Show Notes

“In the world of Internet Customer Service, it’s important to remember your competitor is only one mouse click away.” – Doug Warner

It seems we are so easily distracted by bright shiny objects. We never give ourselves enough time on one project before we move to another.

This week, The Entrepreneurial You podcast invites Dylan Ogline to share about his experience  on “The Secret To Success: Focus.”

Here is a snippet of what Dylan shared:

“If you own a business your true number one priority should be providing your product or service to your customer, but I don’t like to mention that because that’s like telling you to breathe. I shouldn’t need to tell you to do that beyond that if you talk about growing your business, your number one focus should be on making the cash register ring bringing in customers and actually getting them to pay you. So just work backwards from there and look at like what is the most simple single thing I can do to bring on more customers all these extra things a website a logo, you know wasting your time trying to get you know, public relations or whatever are all of these things necessary or that they just help that one single thing.”

Business Process Management: How To Do It Effectively

The founder of The CEO Partner®, a systems driven, profits-obsessed, Digital Implementation agency that helps smart CEOs grow their business and meet their goals. Sonaya started her Digital Implementation Agency in November of 2011 while still working full-time as a Senior Financial Systems Analyst at TD Ameritrade. “If I had one hour to save the world, I would spend fifty-five minutes defining the problem and only five minutes finding the solution.” – Albert Einstein

Are you crumbling under the weight of your business? It may be a lack of system that is weighing you down.

This week, The Entrepreneurial You podcast invites Sonaya WIlliams to share her experience and expertise on “Business Process Management: How To Do It Effectively.”

Here is a snippet of what Sonaya shared:

“A lot of people create businesses because they don’t want to be in the corporate grind. They don’t want to have to live to that 9 to 5 or they want to create their own schedule. Some people wanted to be away and do what they enjoy and not have to come back and be like at a nine-to-five. Maybe they want to work a couple hours a day or a couple hours a week. The only way you can do that is if you have the processes in place because the business still needs to run. Things still need to happen and you don’t necessarily have to be the one to do that. If you have the system in place, they allow you the time freedom. They allow you to keep money on the table. Having processes and systems in place allows you to identify the support that you truly need because once you have the process down, you know what it’s going to take to execute it. And you know, what kind of skills that person, whether it’s a virtual assistant project manager, a launch manager, whoever, you know the skills that they need to execute.

How to Launch a New Business When All You Have Is A Dime

Frustrated in his corporate job and struggling in his marriage, parenting and finances, Seth started with a single dime, with a dream that if he kept doubling it, he could leave his corporate job and create margin for him and his family. Today, Seth is a full time Amazon seller and is the founder of Just One Dime, a coaching company for Amazon FBA sellers. Seth has students in over 100 countries, was flown to Amazon’s headquarters to be consulted for improving Amazon’s third party platform, was asked by a company owned by a shark

from Shark Tank to run their online Amazon and ecommerce division, run a sourcing team in China, and was requested by two countries to train their top businesses.

It is pivot season! Thanks to COVID-19. Perhaps you’ve turned to having a digital business and particularly an Amazon store. But how much do you know about how to do it really well?

This week, The Entrepreneurial You podcast invites Seth Kniep to share his wealth of knowledge on “How to Launch a New Business When All You Have Is A Dime.”

Here is a snippet of what  Seth shared:

“First you find a product that is solving a problem and you make sure that the top competitors for that product that are selling it at least five of them have fewer than 100 reviews, which means if someone with less than a hundred reviews is selling really well, then you can launch a new product and probably sell it very well. Also, then you make sure it’s selling at least 12 to 15 times a day. That’s a general rule profit is more important than how many times it sells but that always ways indicates if between 12 and 15 minimum indicates, very strong demand for a product you find that product you make sure there aren’t too many reviews as using the criteria I mentioned and then you start reading the critical reviews and you ask yourself a simple question when I look at all the critical reviews or I should say the top-ranking critical reviews for the top competitor What are the customer saying that they don’t like about this product?”

Influencer Marketing: What’s In It For My Business?

Eric is the CEO and co-founder of Open Influence and a key authority in the influencer marketing space. Eric is a Forbes 30 Under 30 recipient and his company has been recognized as one of Inc’s 5000 list of Fastest Growing Companies in America for two years in a row (2018 & 2019). His company’s clients include Disney, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Intuit, SoFi, Unilever, P&G, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, L’Oreal, and Under Armour just to name a few.

“Influencers — they’re the best thing since sliced bread. But forget bread; they’re selling like hotcakes. They’re creating huge returns, and they’re only set to keep growing!” – Emily Warna

There is a line from a very popular Jamaica artiste that says, “dweet fi di love, mi nuh dweet fi di likes.” This is talking about popularity on social media. Sadly, many people are misguided into thinking that likes and followers on social media is an end-all and be all.

This week, The Entrepreneurial You podcast invites Eric Dahan to share on “Influencer Marketing: What’s In It For My Business?”

Here is a snippet of what Eric shared:

“I think it’s really important to note that popularity is not influence. Having a lot of followers does not mean you have any influence it sounds a bit counterintuitive, but when you look at influence, you have to look at it in a relative lens. So, what are you influential in? What kind of topic do you know? One of my favourite examples, I would trust my hairstylist for advice on hairstyles and trends. I won’t necessarily trust my lawyer to give me that same advice but I will trust my lawyers to give me advice on legal matters.  It works in a very sort of similar way. Trust is really relative and trust is what drives influence”

Using Podcast Interview Marketing To Turn Listeners Into Customers

Tom Schwab knows how to build an online business. He’s done it successfully several times, and now helps others find online success with podcast interview marketing. As a Navy veteran who ran nuclear power plants, and an inbound marketing engineer, Tom Schwab has a refreshingly unique approach. Tom helps thought leaders (coaches, authors, speakers, consultants, emerging brands) get featured on leading podcasts their ideal prospects are already listening to. The Interview Valet system then helps them to turn listeners into customers.

Show Notes

“Human beings love to buy stuff. But we hate being sold to through the old paradigm. So consider that when you podcast because at the end of the day, you should be selling.“ – Glen Carlson

There are so many benefits that are available through podcast guesting. Yet, it is one of the most underutilized areas of marketing for thought leaders.

This week, The Entrepreneurial You podcast invites Tom Schwab to share about his expertise on “Using Podcast Interview Marketing To Turn Listeners Into Customers.”

Here is a snippet of what Tom shared:

“I get pitched to be on my podcast probably two to three times a day. Everyone says the same thing: Tom I love your podcast and would love to be a guest. There’s only one problem: Heneka I don’t have a podcast. They’re just Robo pitching. That’s not being a guest, that’s being slimy. That’s being spammy. That’s everything that people hate. If you want to be introduced to somebody’s audience or somebody’s friends, and somebody’s tribe, you need to learn that.  Gary Vaynerchuk always talks about jab jab jab right hook and I probably missed a couple Jabs in there. I look at it as serve, serve, serve, serve, ask right so serve.”

My 2020 Year In Review: Top 3 Lessons Learned

Hello and welcome to episode 201 of The Entrepreneurial you podcast. I’m your host Heneka Watkis-Porter. I am still reeling from the excitement of last week when I reached the milestone of 200 episodes. To celebrate I interviewed Seth Godin live and what a time that was! If you haven’t listened to it yet, go check it out. Seth is just such a wealth of inspiration.

This week, I am doing a solo episode chronicling my 2020 experience. It is interesting because while this journey makes the COVID-19 pandemic seem like a walkinthe park, it was then that I truly leant how to live (literally and physically).
HERE ARE THREE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODE:

I elaborate on my top 3 lessons learnt in 2020.
Learn about my worst 2020 moment
Hear what my 2020 high points are

EPISODE SOUND BITE
Back to 2019…
In order to go forward, let me go back a little to 2019. If you were listening to episode 147 which was published on January 7, 2020, you will recall it was titled “The Highs and Lows of 2020.”

I shared at the end of 2019 how I was slowing down, how tired I felt because of chronic insomnia and the deep, dark depression that I fell into. I also shared how I had found a cure.

Well, after that, things went downhill from there. What happened next was something I wasn’t prepared for by any stretch of the imagination. I found myself fighting for my life on the night of January 9, 2020. Remember how I told you that I was taking sleeping pills and then I discovered marijuana tea? Well about 10 pm this night in question I drank some marijuana tea. I boiled maybe 1.5 grams for an extended time in milk to get the full THC effect. But I totally forgot that the previous night I had taken Zopiclone to help me to sleep. Apparently, it was still in my system coupled with the very potent THC from the marijuana…a deadly combination!

Somehow (I don’t know how) I made it through the night. The following morning I got 4 bags of drip + valium and injection from the doctor as they did everything to get the drug out of my system. Except being traumatized for days, all went back to normal.

This is How 2020 Started
I continued life as I knew it – finishing up my 5th book, Podcast Power: The Quick-Start Guide To Launching And Leveling-Up Your Brand; I traced to the US to do 3 major speaking engagements (ATD Tech Knowledge, Podcast Movement Evolutions and PodFest multi-Media Expo).

So let’s fast track to April 1, 2020. You see, April 1, 2020, began as an ordinary day. I got up early, said a prayer (I think) and then went on to do a myriad of interviews on both sides of the mic, i.e. being a guest on a few shows and interviewing guests for mine. It was a long day, I felt tired but I knew I would have time to rest after my last interview which was scheduled for 8:00 pm, OR SO I THOUGHT!

I am strong, resilient and determined so I should be able to get through this final live interview. BUT it was not to be. In the middle of the live recording there began the first of many health challenges. I began feeling as though I was passing out. I had to stop immediately. Since it was night and the curfew in Jamaica had begun that very evening, I consulted with a telemedical professional. Based on the symptoms I was experiencing, he promptly made a referral to Andrews Hospital, all this while every breath seems to be leaving my body (and yeah got stopped in the curfew too by the cops).

From there, all went down there from a medical standpoint. I have seen so many doctors within this time, including a Psychiatrist. Some of the symptoms included,  but were not limited to the below:

…depression triggered the physical situation which then caused anxiety.

Some of the physical symptoms:

Discover how to “pick yourself.”
Learn what it means to do the “practice.”

Every Blog Starts With Fewer Than 100 Readers
“It’s easy for somebody to say you can do X Y or Z because you’re your Seth. But they weren’t around when I got 800 rejection letters in a row and was eating black beans and rice every day because I wasn’t Seth. And when my blog started, the first 200 posts had fewer than 100 readers. Every blog starts with fewer than 100 readers. Every PODCAST starts with fewer than 100 listeners that’s the only way it can start.

Different People Will Find Different Fuel
Every day I say what would my mom and dad be proud of if I did this and every day I say what did all the people who open the door for me, what do they need from me today that’s my fuel. Different people are going to find different fuel. But I believe there is an endless amount of enthusiasm and momentum and reserve if we just tap into the people who came before…

The Roadmap?
The number of roadmaps in the world is close to infinite. First, you have to decide where you want to go. So if I said to you, how do I get to Kingston. Well, we can look at Google Maps; we can look at Bing; we can look at Rand McNally. Finding the map is pretty straightforward. The hard part is deciding to go to Kingston, committing to go to Kingston, saying, I’m going to get from here to there. And that’s the thing we ignore because everyone’s afraid of failing. Everyone says show me the proof of all the steps. Exactly, the guarantee that I’m going to get from here to there and that’s not how it works, so, you know, Miles Davis was first, and the one and only and recorded the bestselling Jazz album of its time in four days. No guarantees right. When Bob Marley showed up and did the work he did, there was no model. There was no do it exactly like this. Chris Blackwell helped but it was Bob believe.”
ABOUT SETH GODIN
Seth is actually a repeat guest on The Entrepreneurial You podcast. He is an entrepreneur, best-selling author, and speaker.

In addition to launching one of the most popular blogs in the world, he has written 19 best-selling books, including The Dip, Linchpin, Purple Cow, Tribes, and What To Do When It’s Your Turn (And It’s Always Your Turn). One of his most recent books, This is Marketing, was an instant bestseller in countries around the world. Today we are here to talk about The Practice: Shipping Creative work.

Though renowned for his writing and speaking, Seth also founded two companies, Squidoo and Yoyodyne (acquired by Yahoo!). In 2013, Seth was one of just three professionals inducted into the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame. In May 2018, he was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame as well. He might be the only person in both.

The Generosity Culture: How “Pouring Into” Others is the Best Way to be Successful

April has spent two decades driving growth for companies by giving. She started her career in the Air Force and then specialized in sales, operations, and marketing, supporting Fortune 500 clients. April generated over $1 billion in combined additional revenue for clients based on the principles of The Generosity Culture.

In this era where everyone is seemingly tuned to WIIFM (what’s in it for me), we welcome any move to foster generosity.

This week, The Entrepreneurial You podcast invites April Shprintz to share about her experience with generosity as a child and how it has impacted her life’s work.

Here is a snippet of what April shared:

“I credit One individual with the generosity culture. She was the impetus for it. Even if I didn’t understand it at the time, when I was nine years old. My mother had to go to rehab. She was given the option from her head of Human Resources where she worked. She could go to rehab for her alcoholism, or she was going to lose her job because it was causing problems at work and the woman who delivered that message to the head of Human Resources came to our home. It was just this extremely generous act on her part because not only did she give my mom that second chance, which was great. My mom did go to rehab. That was a  wonderful thing for her, but she also took a significant interest in me as a young girl.”
