Miracle Mineral: Magnesium As A Response To Burn Out

As we continue our health and wellness journey, I must tell you I am super excited to share today’s episode because we are going to be looking at what has become my favourite food supplement and that is Magnesium.

Ian Clark founded Activation Products out of a personal health crisis like me who created the Slow Down & Live Health Summit as a result of health challenges that I faced in 2020.  Stay tuned as Ian shares with us on the topic of ‘Miracle Mineral: Magnesium As A Response To Burn Out.’
Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

Learn how Magnesium functions in the body.
Learn about the different forms of Magnesium and how we can take it.
Hear about Ian Clark’s personal experience with his energy’s and what his own imbalance taught him about life and how to get the best out of it.

Episode Highlights

Your Body Demands Magnesium

Low Magnesium levels can affect brain power, our Immune system, Endocrine system,  Metabolism, Nervous system, Digestive system, Respiratory System, Cardiovascular system, and many other aspects of your bodily function.
Magnesium among other necessary minerals is found in some of the food we eat. However, over the years this has depleted as a result of practices such as mono farming and agricultural businesses that focus on mass-producing rather than quality production.

Magnesium Can Affect the Body’s Nervous System

The body’s control system is the Autonomic nervous system. This system has two arms which are the Sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. Both of these systems must operate synchronized to avoid sympathetic stress lock. This kind of lock-in can result in the inability to digest and heal properly. However, with the correct levels of Magnesium, this can be avoided or corrected.
Magnesium affects your entire human operating network. Therefore, lack of this mineral can affect things such as your brain function and result in brain fog and anxiety as well as it may affect your instinct and your passions.

Magnesium a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

A lack of Magnesium has a creeping effect on one’s body and it can trigger a series of illnesses that can turn into long term underlying issues.
The body operates with three energies; Chi, Jing, and Shen. Our Chi Energy has to do with the energy we put into our body via food.   People are often advised to eat as organic as possible and maintain a healthy diet to avoid the burnout that comes as a result of bad Chi.
Jing Energy is recognized as the body’s natural battery. The energy we are born with contributes to length and quality of life.  Jing energy is very sensitive and is sometimes abused because people fail to find the balance between the Chi and the Jing. A lack of rest and poor eating habits force our bodies to tap into more of our Jing than we should have, which results in us taking years off our life without even realizing it.
Our Shen Energy is our character and how we treat others. Our Chi and Jing affect our Shen so it is important to find a balance and live better. All three of these energies can be affected by having the right amount of Magnesium or the lack thereof, Therefore it is important to have Magnesium in some way shape or form to increase your quality of life.  It won’t be an overnight process but we are reminded that micro-adjustments can yield macro results.

She mentions putting a stop to certain generational habits and how that changes the outcome of her own children by making the changes in herself first.
A certain level of introspection is required to make changes in one’s diet in order for a person to own their health.
Holland teaches practical ways of owning one’s health and how humans should see themselves as evolving beings. She provides ways  in which one can find alternatives to to lead a more whole food based diet and get the best of it and the importance of listening to your own body to stay in tune to what works and what doesn’t.

Parenting and Behavioural Health in Caribbean Children

This week we pick up with the presentation from Professor Jaipaul Roopnarine on Parenting And Behavioural Health In Caribbean Children. Professor Roopnarine is Professor of Human Development and Family Science, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.
Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

Learn more about what has been happening globally with children’s mental/behavioral health since the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Learn about Parental practices in the Caribbean and its effects as well as learn about how home environments affect children.
Learn about positive parenting and how it can benefit children’s development and mental and developmental health.

Episode Highlights
Children have been mentally affected by the Pandemic

Children just like adults have been victims of the Covid-19 Pandemic and have been facing mental and behavioural issues such as Frustration, Boredom, separation fears ,clingy behaviour, Anxiety and Depression among other things. However, they  have been demonstrating resilience and use activities such  fantasy play and artistic expression to cope with the lock downs that have come as a result of the Pandemic.Things that contribute to this resilience include demonstration of attitudes of gratitude, forming trusting relationship with adults and expressions of hope and love for reassurance.

Parenting Practices and Environment affects children’s behaviour.

In the Caribbean there are several different parenting styles, parental practices and environments and each of these are risk factors for childrents mental and behavioral development.Parents basic goals are for children to develop a sense of agency and communion to help them develop and cope in society however, in Caribbean society children combat issues such as crime and violence, harsh parenting, neglectful parenting, separation usually due to migration, parental instability, poverty, suicide, substance abuse , natual disasters  and more recently the pandemic.

While research shows that many caribbean children’s self assessment of happiness is high there are also concerns that are alarming as some children fear abuse whether physically or sexually and a percentage of them have already experienced both forms of abuse as well as psychological aggression from those around them.

Research shows that there are two groups of parents in the Caribbean and Suriname. They can be understood as high in warmth and low in harshness which usually produces optimal behavioural development in children while the other is high in warmth and high is harshness which usually places children in a place for behavioural and academic difficulties.

Caribbean parents use 4 main parenting styles: Authoritative Democratic, Autocratic, Permissive and Neglectful/uninvolved. Research in the Caribbean revealed that over ⅓ of parents use the Authoritative democrartic style, 20% use an Authoritarian style  with a smaller percentage proving to be permissive. However the neglectful category had an alarming rate of about 30% across the different countries. These different parenting styles produce different behavioural patterns in children that can range from healthy to unhealthy in terms of internal and external behaviours.
While discipline is very important to children’s  behavioural development as it helps to instill their understanding of right and wrong the act of discipling ones child in the Caribbean can  sometimes be harsh and Professor Roopnarine explored ways in which this happens in the Caribbean region versus other nations as well as its effects  both in the homes in wider society and suitable alternatives.

Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode:

Discover how you can be a successful business owner.
Learn how you can establish your worth.
Learn how to stay positive and motivated as a Black business owner living in America

Episode Highlights
What Is It Like Being Black In America?

Eli shared that it is a struggle being Black in America.
Eli mentioned that there is the constant feeling of not being able to breathe.
He shared that being Black we hear more “no’s” than “yes”.
We are constantly fighting to just find our worth; trying to create values within our own communities.
Being Black in America, you feel as though you always have to try to match up in order to be equals.
We need to show support to those in our communities.
Eli believes we need to normalize building up our fellow Black business owners and aspiring business owners instead of tearing them down.

Divide & Conquer- What Role Does This Play In Our Society Today?

Eli shared that the ‘Divide & Conquer’ phenomenon during the time of slavery, and even to this day was how Whites were able to get members of the Black community to turn against each other.
Eli spoke on a powerful concept, “Redlining”- where banks would give certain loans to those who wished to purchase a home. In certain communities, he shared that they would make sure that Blacks would not be able to own homes; placing them all together in particular cities. In doing so, it was easier for policing, easier for them to enter communities and assault Black men or women, and to treat Black children unfavorably.
In these communities, you’ll find high rates of unemployment and schools without proper teaching systems.

How Can We Shift Our Mindset?

Eli also shared that in his role as a Black business owner, he always tries to give back to the community through his foundations and through his yearly summit known as the Dream Summit.
For this annual summit, he would get business professionals to come in and talk about How to Create Wealth and Value Within the Black Community.
He also shared that his company represents diversity- by hiring people from all over the world.

Eli Shares His Background

Eli shared that from the age of 17, he learned the value of a contract through his father’s teachings.
Eli also shared that even from a young age, he always knew that he wanted to pursue a career in business.
He shared that his father taught him to realize that with everything you are told, make sure you do your research to know if it’s true.

Knowing Your Worth

Eli shared that many times we look in our communities for praise and honor, and a lot of times there are always people trying to keep us down.
There should not have to be a policy to tell you to love your fellow men.
Eli also shared that we should not place our faith in a government that has tried to keep us down.

What Is An Exit Strategy?

Michelle shared that when starting a business, you want to begin with the end in mind.
Most businesses are not sellable because the owner did not build a sellable business. Click To Tweet
She also shared that you must always remember that your business is your most valuable asset.

Why Is An Exit Strategy Important?

With no planned end game, it’s very easy for business owners to get more caught up in the business  they’ve given themselves as opposed to the long-term strategy behind running the business itself.
An exit strategy keeps that endgame in mind and can make day-to-day decisions more strategic in nature.
If  as a business owner you have no idea where you are going, you will never know when you get there.
Having an exit strategy helps you to  define success and provides a blueprint for charting your progress.

What Does An Exit Strategy Involve?

Here are a few areas to consider when trying to plan an effective exit strategy:

Clearly establish your business goals.
Set a realistic time frame.
Clearly outline your intentions for the business.
Know what’s next.

Discover the importance of managing your time.

Episode Highlights
How To Be Great At Sales Without Being Sleazy?

We need to learn how to connect with our potential clients first.
Ensure that you are listening to potential clients more than you are speaking to them.Click To Tweet For instance, if you focus on asking open-ended questions and then listening to their responses, oftentimes you find that they talk themselves into why they may need or want what you’re offering. Listening more is a powerful way to not only build a rapport with clients but also help them see that you’re coming from a place of service, not a place of only wanting to make a sale.
In a case where the person is not interested, it is okay for you to move on. When you allow yourself to move on from that relationship, often the person feels more comfortable and might even end up referring other people to you in the future.

Managing Your Time-

In sales, time management is of great value.
Managing your time well increases productivity of an individual and also avoids forgetting important things.
Time management ensures the completion of tasks at a much faster rate and more effectively. Plan your day well in advance.

Building Rapport-

It is important to build rapport in sales as it helps to build mutual trust and friendship with your customer or client.
We must take the time to understand our customers’ needs.
Building rapport with your client/colleague is important as it gets their mind to accept and begin to process your suggestions.

Final Thoughts
Stop selling and start connecting. Focus on the connection- to get to know people and to not go into that call thinking about it only being a sale. Focus on building up your pipeline so that you have those consistent conversations. Celebrate the fact that you had the courage to ask and show up in the first place.

We do not need to sell to everyone in order to be successful.

Learning A New Skill-

Learning a new skill allows you to gain new experiences, and trains your brain to handle a wide range of challenges.
It increases your adaptability when placed in new environments.
It provides you with the opportunity for growth both personally and professionally.

Why Should I Invest In Online Courses?

One of the main reasons you should invest in online courses speaks to time-efficiency.
It offers you flexibility to allow you to fit your classes around your work and personal life, thus giving you access to take the course at your own pace.
Online means you are able to access the course from anywhere in the world.

How To Start And Grow My Online Empire

The first thing you should do is to assess the skills you currently have. What are you passionate about that someone would pay you for?
Then you need to look at something you would like to do or that is in high demand, learn a new skill and offer it to someone who needs you.
Thirdly, you need to start marketing yourself. Utilize social media to offer your services and promote your skills.
Think about how you are going to make more sales.
80% of your day should be spent on marketing activities that will bring in sales, and 20% of your day should be spent on fulfillment: delivering that service to your client or doing a specific task.

Final Thoughts From Alicia
If you want to be your own boss and start your own business. All you need is the courage to say yes to your business.
