Google Just Dropped the Search Profile Threshold to 10,000 Followers. Here Is What That Means for MPN Podcasters.
First came Search Console measurement for your social channels. Now comes the public Knowledge Panel and Discover feed button—and you only need 10k on a single platform to unlock the whole thing.

Back in August, when we published How to Add Your Podcast’s Social Accounts to Google Search Console and Stop Manually Updating Your Links Every Time an Episode Drops, we pointed out a simple rule about how Google operates: Google does not build measurement for surfaces it thinks are irrelevant.
When Google started letting creators verify Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube directly inside Search Console—with no website required—that was the back-end plumbing. It was Google acknowledging that discovery for shows, hosts, and B2B voices had moved to video and social, and that your social footprint is now a primary search entity.
Now, Google has opened the gates on the front-end payoff.
Google has lowered the eligibility threshold for Google Search Profiles for a second time since launch, cutting the requirement down to 10,000 followers or subscribers on a single platform.
When Search Profiles launched in June 2026, you needed 100,000 followers on YouTube, Instagram, or X (and 300,000 on TikTok) just to get in the door. In late August, Google dropped that bar to 35,000. Dropping it again to 10,000 moves Search Profiles out of the “mega-influencer” tier and puts it squarely in reach of working B2B marketers, niche industry hosts, and a large slice of the Marketing Podcast Network (MPN) roster.
Here is how the 10k rule actually works, why it matters for a marketing podcast, and how to set yours up so all your links work together.
How the Threshold Dropped (And the Single-Channel Rule)
| Rollout Phase | YouTube, Instagram & X | TikTok |
|---|---|---|
| June 2026 (Initial Launch) | 100,000 | 300,000 (later matched at 100k) |
| August 2026 (First Cut) | 35,000 | 100,000 (cut to 35k on Aug 25) |
| Current Requirement | 10,000 | 10,000 |
The most important operational detail—and the first question every host asks—is whether that 10,000 is cumulative across all your accounts or required on a single channel.
It is 10,000 on a single channel. Google’s eligibility check looks at your accounts individually, not your combined cross-platform total. Having 4,000 subscribers on YouTube, 4,000 on Instagram, and 3,000 on X (11,000 overall) will not trigger verification.
However, you only need to clear the 10k bar once.
As soon as one supported public channel (YouTube, Instagram, X, or TikTok) has 10,000+ followers or subscribers, you get through the gate. Once your Search Profile is verified, you can connect and display all of your other social channels and websites on that same profile—even if your secondary show accounts only have a few hundred followers.
Even better for agency owners and network producers: a single Google Account can claim and manage up to 10 separate Search Profiles for different eligible hosts, shows, or brands.
What a Google Search Profile Actually Gives Your Show
If Search Console for social accounts was about seeing how people find you, a Google Search Profile is about controlling what happens when they do. Claiming your profile at creators.google/profile unlocks four specific advantages in Google Search:
- An Owned Vanity Entity URL (profile.google.com/@handle): Google assigns your show or personal brand a canonical creator entity page directly on Google’s domain.
- Knowledge Panel Control & AI Bio Summary: Instead of hoping Google pieces together who you are from scattered podcast directories, your Search Profile feeds a dedicated Knowledge Panel layout—complete with your avatar, cover image, AI-generated bio summary, and verified social feeds.
- The Google Discover “Follow” Button: Viewers who look up your name or your show in Google Search can tap Follow right on the SERP. That signal tells Google to prioritize your latest YouTube episodes, shorts, and social posts inside their personal Google Discover feed on mobile.
- Unified Cross-Channel Aggregation: Instead of ranking only your website or a random Apple Podcasts link when someone searches your name, Google pulls your recent posts and video clips from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and X into a single browsable carousel on the search results page.
Why This Matters Specifically for MPN Podcasters
Most marketing and business podcasts don’t operate like consumer entertainment shows with half a million TikTok followers. B2B podcasting is high-trust, high-LTV, and niche.
A B2B host on MPN might have an audio feed doing a few thousand targeted downloads a week, an Instagram account for clips at 1,800 followers, a YouTube channel at 3,200 subscribers—and an X account at 12,500 followers built over a decade in digital marketing.
Under the old 100k or 35k rules, that host was locked out. Under the 10,000 single-channel rule, that 12,500-follower X account unlocks the entire Google Search Profile ecosystem for the podcast.
Once unlocked, that host can:
- Claim their Search Profile using their 10k+ X account.
- Link their 3,200-subscriber YouTube podcast channel and 1,800-follower Instagram reels account right alongside it.
- Point their primary website link directly to their MPN show page or their OneFront hub.
As we covered in The Google Updates Marketers Missed This Year, podcast discovery and sponsorship attribution happen upstream. A listener hears you on a panel, sees a 45-second clip on social, or hears your guest appearance on another MPN show, and then types your name into Google. When a prospective listener—or a prospective sponsor—Googles you, a claimed Search Profile turns a fragmented page of ten blue links into an authoritative media kit right on the SERP.
How to Connect the Whole Loop (The 4-Step MPN Playbook)
If you have at least one account over 10,000 followers on YouTube, Instagram, X, or TikTok, don’t treat this as an isolated badge. Wire it into the search and link infrastructure we’ve been building across MPN all year:
- Check Eligibility & Claim Your Handle: Start at creators.google/profile (make sure you are logged into a standard Google Account rather than a restricted Workspace profile) and click Check your eligibility, or head straight to https://profile.google.com/claim. Authenticate the social account that clears the 10,000 mark.
- Connect Every Secondary Show Channel: Inside https://profile.google.com/account, attach your remaining podcast social channels (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X) regardless of their follower counts.
- Point Your Primary Website Link at a Single Hub: In Stop Manually Updating Your Links Every Time an Episode Drops, we showed why every social bio should point to one self-updating destination (like a OneFront page backed by your RSS feed) rather than a link you have to edit every Friday. Use that exact same canonical URL—or your MPN show page—as the website link inside your Google Search Profile so your entity graph points to one clean hub.
- Pair It With Search Console Social Measurement + Preferred Sources: If you haven’t already connected your social channels to Search Console to see the impression and click data behind your profile, follow our guide on How to Add Your Podcast’s Social Accounts to Google Search Console, and make sure your show site includes your Google Preferred Source link for AI Search.
